I was stunned at how breathtaking these elaborate murals are by Frederic Doyon in the Basilica of St. Anne Beaupre in Quebec, Canada — perfect for sharing during this holiday season. Christmas Week
With just two days before Christmas, I thought I’d continue with a mix of Christmas oriented murals, wintry scenes and music. I usually don’t like modern murals with biblical or religious oriented murals, but these are very well done by Keith Goodson for Champions Church in Winter Haven, Florida. He seems to have found the right balance between realism and stylistic portrayal that appears alive and dynamic. Another Christmas-like mention for this week would have to be the cover of The Washington Post‘s Book World, which makes a comeback at this time annually, whereas it used to be a regular Sunday section feature but was dropped in 2009. Christmas Creche
The nativity scene is a way to visually recall the Christmas story and why we celebrate Christmas afterall. I thought this one was unusually interesting in that it is carved out of one piece of wood. Clicking on this link gives you a little history behind the Nativity scene. This was another interesting Old World Style one: We usually put one up every year and like its meaningful message lends simple pleasure to our Christmas decor.
