Bilaterally Symmetrical, Ball Point & Body Types

This video is amazing and completely captivating to watch!

Since I’m a “visual artist” drawing what I actually see, I have a hard time drawing from my imagination and especially quickly. Trust me, you don’t want me on your Pictionary team. Everything here is in this guy’s head that’s why I’m so enthralled. Plus, since he’s ambidextrous, he can do it simultaneously with two hands in complete symmetry. I like the taped-on pens as a drawing prosthetic. It might be an out of the box exercise to try, just don’t call me when I’m trying it.

These large scale ball point pen drawings by Juan Franciso Casas as seen on Crooked Brains are fantastic. It’s interesting that the comments posted mention his talent but don’t get why he’s “mimicking” his photos. I see not only the skill but the subject poses and composition as being artistic. Also, to be able to render the photo portraits large scale in an unforgiving, hard-edged medium as a ball point pen, with such precision and softness, gives a look more of graphite, which cannot be rendered the same in photography or replicated with just a print.

A good knowledge of anatomy and body types is discussed by Joumana Medleg on cedarseed.com.

I'm an artist, wife and mother of two boys. I started my illustration business, The Occasional Palette over 35 years ago, when my oldest son was an infant. Once my children were in school, I began painting decorative, faux finishes and murals through my second business, Casart, now over 30 years old. My third business, Casart Coverings, is a springboard from my second.
