    9/11 Pentagon Memorial

    Life is hard. I know that’s an understatement, particularly for those who have suffered loss. This is why I am always amazed at people’s resilience to make something beautiful from some sense of destruction, turning their grief into hope. The Pentagon Memorial is this very kind of extraordinary art. It is a very moving tribute to those who lost their lives in DC on that horrible September 11th morning in 2001. To me, it looks like bold, moving strokes of light “heading Home.” It’s hard to believe it’s been seven years because it feels very fresh and raw to recall every anniversary.     Sand Art Reflection

    Although we missed the annual The New England Sand Art Contest, which ended on July 20, we just returned from a beach trip visiting my in-laws in Rhode Island. These photos and story in the Boston Globe provide some beach fun reflection, even though our sand “castles” were lame in comparison.     Beijing Buildings

    Beijing’s bursting architectural boom, due to the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics, is either an example of “authoritarian architecture” or a proliferation in architectural advancement. According to Philip Kennicott, the Washington Post architecture critic, who writes this “Towering Ambition” article, much of China’s current architecture is meaningless. Here’s a video by Travis Fox for you to decide: The United Kingdom’s take in The Times isn’t so great either; although, I happen to like some of the structures and their contemporary feel, particularly the stadiums and the gigantic video facade, which remind me of other light show postings.
