Art4Others…Art with Heart
In 2006 I was involved with a group of talented decorative artists and artisans who gave freely of their time to transform a house, under the guide of Adrienne VanDooren, who founded the concept for The House That Faux Built. It was a big success, the first of its kind and a wonderful coffee table type book was produced. All the proceeds went to funding the building of a home through Habitat for Humanity in New Orleans. Finally, the house has been fully funded and the construction has begun. Now artist can give back another way, by becoming involved in the onsite project and hosting events in their own hometown…
Empire State Building
Look up! The ceiling murals of the Empire State Building’s Lobby are being restored. Bill Mensching and Jeff Greene of EverGreene Architectural Arts are at it again. I first read about their work when I discovered who was doing the mural restoration at the US Capitol. This company is inspirational — a decorative finisher’s dream job, especially one like me who loves art history and restoration. Afterall, I was headed down that museum track of exhibition design long before life chose a different path. Framing Design
This is the way I view art sometimes — as practical design. I view design as a subcategory of an overall umbrella description of art that in this case can be enjoyed and serves as a practical purpose. I’m a decorative finisher with a background in Art History, so when I go into a museum to view masterful artwork, I am always looking at the walls and the over all exhibition design. The two work together to give the total effect. If these sofa fabrics can be framed, then certainly this sofa by Italian designer Gaetano Pesce can be viewed as art as well.
