Brooke Duckart
While searching for artists to hire for the marketing firm representing Effen Vodka, this past year, I found many talented artists. Some of them were located in Milwaulkee, where a couple of the events were to occur. I was immediately enchanted with Brooke Duckart’s artwork, particularly her scratchboard pieces. I found her through her Flickr site. Unfortunately she was in the middle of her own deadlines and was unable to participate at the time. Chuck Close
Luckily I was able to see the latest, Chuck Close exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery of Art before it closes on September 12. He is one of my favorite contemporary artists. I have clippings upon clippings regarding news stories about is work but I learned so much more about his process through this exhibit. Talk about painstaking. I had no idea that some of his prints took at least seven or more stages to achieve or used over 113 colors. Not only do I find him to be an incredibly talented draftsman but he’s a print maker rock star who breaks the boundaries all the previous methods of printmaking. Chuck…
Wood and Leather Murals
Happy Labor Day! Are you working? Hope not. Whether you are or are not think how much patience these murals must take to make using unusual materials such as wood and leather. Ed Lantzer, who was 72 years old, worked with small wooden pieces and glued them together to make murals that were on display last year. This article mentions his last exhibit, My Father’s Art, in Evansville, Indiana, before he died of cancer. What a wonderful tribute and accomplishment before his passing.
